Start nowOnline learning has become increasingly popular during the pandemic. This allows students to attend courses from home with added convenience and safety benefits - taking education out of the four walls of a classroom into your own living room!
After the New York Governor made it possible in late July 2020, drivers can now complete their 5-hour course online. This convenient and informative class serves to teach new NY drivers valuable principles of safe driving as well as proper traffic rules - all leading towards a decline in violations on roads across the state!
The pandemic has made traditional in-person driver's ed classes difficult to conduct safely. Fortunately, with the introduction of Zoom and other virtual meeting software, we're now able to offer our 5 hour Pre-licensing Course online - allowing drivers aged 18+ statewide easy access to this necessary step towards obtaining their license! Classes are simple enough for anyone comfortable using video chat services like Zoom; all you need is a link or ID code sent by your instructor ahead of time, so learning can be done from the comfort and safety of home.
Before the 5 hour class Zoom, each student will have pre-registered and availed his/her Learner’s Permit to enable the school to identify him/her.
This helps the school to determine if you are really eligible for the course. The school will also record your information as presented on your Learner’s Permit.
After mailing you the certificate, we begin your exciting journey to becoming a licensed driver. Submit it promptly to New York State DMV so they can update your record and set up an appointment for road testing - one step closer to reaching that milestone!
To set up a Zoom meeting, you should follow this procedure:
Once you've mastered the pre-licensing course, you'll be armed with an MV-278 pre-licensing certificate. After successfully completing a driver education course through either your high school or college, you will be rewarded with an MV-285 (Student Certificate of Completion).
Once you're ready to take your road test, don't forget to bring along the original certificate! Having one of these on-hand is a requirement before scheduling. Make sure it's accessible for when your license examiner needs it.
Keep in mind that once you receive your certificate it’s only valid for a year from the date it’s issued to you. If for some reason you let your certificate expire you have to complete the 5-hour pre-licensing class again. On the day you make the appointment the certificate has to be valid but on the day you take the road test it can be expired.
If you’re changing your license from one license class to a new one you don’t need to have a certificate if you already have a New York State driver’s license. In this case, all you need to do is apply to amend to a different license class.
Driving Schools issue the pre-licensing course certificate in three ways:
The essence of joining a driving school is to learn to drive safely. You can now learn to drive well without attending a driving school classroom, thanks to the online 5 hour driving class. We already discussed the requirements for a 5-hour driving class.
Any driver worth the name should be able to safely drive along the highway, observing the traffic rules and other related regulations.
The 5 hour class online is for everyone. You’ll be taught by experienced instructors who will make you feel confident and safe again.
In this class, you get to learn the confidence and calm you need to always pass through the storm that defines some of the roads, especially here in New York.
You will get to appreciate why you should always put your and other road users’ safety ahead of your desire to get to your destination ahead of time.
Each time the police stop you due to unsafe driving, it is at the expense of your time and, well, your money if you lose the argument.
Passing your road test starts in the driving class, not on the road. The quality of the instructions you receive dramatically determines how you will perform.
